We are no stranger to freezing temps here in Illinois, but, nonetheless, it can still cause some serious issues for businesses, regardless of how often it occurs. The major water repairs that are caused by frozen pipes are a real concern for local businesses, and we want you to know that we are here to help!
Some helpful tips to prevent frozen pipes:
Simply letting your faucet drip can help prevent them from freezing. It isn't a huge water waster either, as it doesn't take much and it can make a huge difference!
Pipes can get cold just like we do! Don't worry though, pipe sleeves and heating tape are available to keep your pipes warm.
Water sources coming in from outside should be shut off during the winter months.
Never lower your heat down below 60. The colder the inside of your house is, the more chance areas of your house not touched by your HVAC system may be freezing, which will leave you wishing you wouldn't have touched that thermostat!
Open cabinet doors under sinks and in storage areas to allow heat from the room to circulate around uninsulated pipes.
If the freezing weather does leave you with a giant flooded mess, give the professionals of SERVPRO a call! We are faster to any disaster and we will make the mischief that Jack Frost makes in your home or business "Like it never even happened."
